There s nothing worse than an electrical problem to bring your rv road trip adventure to a halt.
Rv electric steps not working.
The electric step on my motor home is not working.
If your rv uses door sensors to control step motion you could have an issue with the sensors being blocked out of alignment.
They were stuck in the out posit.
While visiting a fellow rver friend of mine recently i helped him out by diagnosing and fixing his motorhome entrance steps.
Depending on the system you have there could be a fuse in the main power panel or in the wiring between the battery and step controller or motor.
Even the new ones have trouble.
A refrigerator working appliances lights and other machinery run on electricity and when electrical problems arise you need to know how to troubleshoot them.
It s usually the power plug that supplies power t.
The electric motor is getting power so it is not the fuse.
The power supply that your parked rv is plugged into can cause problems if it is supplying too much or too little power fluctuates is not grounded correctly or its connector is corroded.
Sometimes they work sometimes they don t.
When the ignition is on it retracts.
The most obvious source of the problem is that you have inadvertently hit a switch that turns off the automatic steps.
If a positive or negative voltage is present when the door switch is activated then the step motor is getting power but not working.
Well it s usually not the step.
Be careful where you place your hands and arms when reconnecting plugs on the step.
It works on two switches out and in.
The step motor is likely bad and needs to be replaced.
I have had the step pulled apart and there is nothing mechanically wrong.
When it is in the off position the steps will not go in or out automatically.
Make sure you re not in the way of the step mechanism.
For instance in our rv there is a toggle switch near the entry door that allows us to turn off the automatic steps.
